Yamaha Rhino Accidents and InjuriesPassengers and drivers of The Yamaha Rhinos 660 and 450 all-terrain vehicles have suffered serious injuries as a result of rollover accidents. The Yamaha Rhino was introduced in the United States in September 2003. The Rhino, because of its design which has a high center of gravity and a narrow wheelbase, can be unstable and prone to roll over on either side when sharply turned, even at low speeds. The Rhino also has virtually no leg or foot protection. When the Rhino begins to roll or tip over, a driver's or a passenger's leg instinctively can come out of the vehicle to brace for the rollover and can end up being crushed. The nature of these crush injuries has often required serious surgeries and bone grafts. The law firm of Fine & Chais handles Yamaha Rhino accident cases throughout California including Manhattan Beach and other South Bay Cities; all of Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Diego County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County and Ventura County; as well as the Northern California and Southern California areas. Yamaha sends warning letter about Rhino. In September of 2006 Yamaha sent a letter to Rhino owners stating that making a sharp turn could cause a tip-over or rollover. Owners were also cautioned not to stick a leg out to stop the Yamaha Rhino from rolling over. The letter also gives instructions on how to steer when the Yamaha Rhino may be tipping over. Yamaha announces design changes to Yamaha Rhinos. Yamaha recently announced that they will make design changes to the Rhino 660 and Rhino 450 all-terrain vehicles. Yamaha indicated that these changes would include putting doors and handholds on the all-terrain vehicles. This is to "help keep occupants from sticking arms and legs out of the vehicles in the response to a side rollover." Yamaha took this action because of the large number or rollover accidents in which passengers and drivers were left serious and permanently impaired leg and arm injuries. The design changes will be made to all 2004-2007 Yamaha Rhino vehicles currently in dealer inventory. The 2008 Yamaha Rhinos will also reflect all of the design changes. Yamaha will be sending literature to all Rhino owners describing the changes being made along with a supplementary owner's manual pamphlet.
